Book Design
I designed a book titled 'A Piece of Cake.' The concept behind the design was to visually represent the process of reading through the book as consuming a slice of cake. To accomplish this, I created chapter cover pages that each featured a full cake illustration. As the reader progresses through the book, the cake slice on the subsequent chapter pages becomes progressively smaller.
In addition to the visual design, I also included a variety of content in the book. The table of contents and cover page were designed to introduce the theme and layout of the book. First chapter, "Let's Talk Cake," features text from a baker describing their process for making a vanilla buttercream. The chapter titled 'Cakes from Around the World' featured illustrations that I drew and provided information on cakes from different countries. 'Activities with Cake' included interactive pages with cake-related puzzles such as crosswords and word searches. 'Cake Tips' provided helpful information for beginner cake bakers, while 'Stories with Cake' included personal anecdotes and photographs from my own experiences with cakes.
Overall, the book consists of 68 pages and showcases my skills in layout design, illustration, and content curation.
As a design element, the cake slice on the chapter pages gets smaller as the reader progresses through the book, creating the visual experience of consuming the cake. Additionally, the cake illustrations from each chapter page can be combined into a GIF.
